| The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was formally established with an Inauguration Ceremony in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre early on July 1. The Premier of the State Council of the PRC, Mr Li Peng, swears in Mr Tung Chee Hwa as Chief Executive of the HKSAR. |
