Hong Kong maintained its reputation as
one of the safest cities in the world in
2005 with the overall crime rate
decreasing by 5.5 per cent. It also played
its part in combating global drug
trafficking, money laundering and
organised crime through close liaison with
international and Mainland law
enforcement agencies.

The overall crime rate — the number of crimes per 100 000 population — of Hong Kong fell by 5.5 per cent in 2005 compared to the previous year and the violent crime rate dropped by 0.7 per cent, indicating the stability of law and order in the city. The crime detection rate was 44.3 per cent.
